In Shogun, the game, each player assumes the role of one of the Council of Regents that rule Japan. These Regents or Daimyos, have been appointed by the now-dead Taiko to rule Japan until his son, Yaemon, reaches the age to assume authority. The game begins six years before that date. Each Daimyo intends to use the six years for political and military maneuvers that will allow him to dominate Japan and achieve the title of Shogun.
